Year seven geographers cover: what is Geography, maps and mapping, restless earth, people everywhere and climate change.  This is focussed on a sense of place, where in the world are we and what is our place in the world?

Year eight geographers cover:  international development, weather and climate, industry, Amazing Asia, and Europe.  It is about developing a sense of issue evaluation, asking questions such as “Why are some countries rich and some countries poor?”, “What is the UK’s position in Europe and the EU?”

Year nine, ten and eleven follow the 9-1, GCSE AQA syllabus.  This comprises three exam papers:

Paper one:  Living with the physical environment

• 3.1.1 Section A: The challenge of natural hazards
• 3.1.2 Section B: The living world
• 3.1.3 Section C: Physical landscapes in the UK

Paper two:  Challenges in the human environment

• 3.2.1 Section A: Urban issues and challenges
• 3.2.2 Section B: The changing economic world
• 3.2.3 Section C: The challenge of resource management

Paper three:  Geographical applications and Geographical skills.

• 3.3.1 Section A: Issue evaluation
• 3.3.2 Section B: Fieldwork

There is a compulsory field trip, where pupils will look at a physical environment (beach), a human environment (resort), and then discuss how these environments interact. 

We usually visit the beach at Dawlish Warren, firstly taking measurements on the sand, secondly, looking at land use mapping, and finally, looking at how humans use the physical environment at Dawlish.
