Class 6
Mrs Kirsty Bower
Teacher of Class 6
Our class teacher is Mrs Bower.
Mrs Hutchings also works in our class to support us with our learning.
In Class 6, we are leaders of the Primary Phase at the top of KS2. We aim to demonstrate to the rest of the school how hard work and a focus on learning will always be rewarded. We apply for leadership roles such as: library, assembly, play and lunchtime monitors. Three pupils in year 6 are chosen to become House Leaders.
Our carefully planned curriculum supports learners to be prepared for the statutory assessments (SATs) that take place in May for all year 6 pupils across the country. The tests help measure the progress pupils have made, and identify if they need additional support in any areas. The tests are also used to assess schools’ performance and to produce national performance data.
These assessments check attainment in the following areas:
-
English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
-
English reading
-
mathematics
Although we ensure pupils are prepared for these assessments, we also ensure pupils have access to all subjects in the curriculum and have many opportunities and experiences across the year. There are many other valuable subjects that are not assessed in the tests which many children excel in – and these are equally as important and carefully planned to make sure they are ready for the next stage in education.
A big part of the summer term in Class 6 will be preparing for their move to the secondary phase. This may involve working with pupils in secondary, a visit from some of their new teachers or lessons in the secondary classrooms. One of the benefits of being part of an all-through is that we have many opportunities to minimise the often stressful shift to secondary education.
Being in class 6 is where being our best selves is at the forefront of everything we do.
